Introducing

There is no easy way to sum up the last three months. Last I wrote, we were expecting twins in three weeks. They were born towards the end of September, but the birthmother changed her mind two days after deliveryand decided to parent them herself. We were disappointed, but understood her decision. Instead of caring for newborns we filled up our October with work, hosting visiting family, camping in the mountains, and taking a trip to Canada to visit Carl’s mother. October turned to November, and we waited hopefully while our adoption profile was shown to other birthmothers. Then, very much to our surprise, we got a call in the middle of the month. The mother of the twins we’d originaly planned to adopt had decided she just could not care for them. Were we still willing to adopt? YES. She signed relinquishment papers the next day, and we picked up our two month old son and daughter a week later. We’ve been parents for two weeks now. It’s surreal, exhausting, and very good. I haven’t decided on blog names for them, so pictures will have to do for now (click for larger images):

    • There’s a narrow window of time between 6:00 and 7:00 in the morning when blogging OR laundry OR vacuuming may get done, but not more than one :). Thankfully they’re finally starting to settle into daytime nap schedulesm too! I actually sat down and read 5 pages of a book yesterday afternoon during a nap – it felt like such a treat after 3 bookless weeks.

    • Exactly. It wasn’t the timing we would have picked originally, but it ended up being just the right thing. The twins won’t be able to get passports for about two years, so the fact that we were able to go visit my husband’s mother in Canada during their first two months ended up being a huge blessing. I can’t say I really missed not sleeping for those two months, either :-P.
