A new way to vacation

Friends from church invited us to Sunday dinner. During a delicious meal of pozole, corn tortillas, and flan we started discussing Texas. Our host looked thoughtful:

“I’ve never really visited Texas. Well…I did drop in by parachute once…”

Only in an Army town.

  1. Ok, so I had to go and look up what pazole was. But the flan – I am envious! I love creme caramel. DH lived in Texas for 5 years as a child and has yet to make me pazole – he does do a pretty mean flan though. I shall have to get him on to it.

  2. Your husband really has lived all over the place! I’d never had pozole either despite eating lots of Mexican food growing up. The dish varies a lot, but the recipe I linked to was the one our hosts used and it was amazing.

I made the mistake of googling pozole. According to the wikipedia article “Since corn was a sacred plant for the Aztecs and other inhabitants of Mesoamerica, pozole was made to be consumed on special occasions…on these special occasions, the meat used in the pozole was human. After the prisoners were killed by having their hearts torn out in a ritual sacrifice, the rest of the body was chopped and cooked with corn. The meal was shared among the whole community as an act of religious communion.” Aaack. That is hands down the grossest background to a dish I’ve ever read.
